#XAMPP TOMCAT DOWNLOAD#Now we are ready to proceed next step and download Tomcat. The shell be set to /bin/false: $ sudo useradd -s /bin/false -g tomcat -d /opt/tomcat tomcat #XAMPP TOMCAT INSTALL#The home location of this user will be /opt/tomcat as this is where we are going to install Tomcat. Next we will create a tomcat user, that will be member of the tomcat group. Start by creating the tomcat group: $ sudo groupadd tomcat That is why we will create user and group tomcat that will run the service. $ sudo apt updateįor security reasons, Tomcat should be ran with a non-privileged user i.e non root. To meet that requirement, we will install OpenJDK as shown. Just change the content of the hibernate. To run Java web applications, Tomcat requires Java to be installed on the server. Still, you might just as well use DHIS2 Live for local use on your laptop - it is very easy to link it to Postgres also. It is quite feasible to run Tomcat with Xampp though you probably need to change the default port (or quit Skype as Timothy said). First of all, try and restart your laptop, and see if that fixes it (you might have two processes starting xxampp).Īlso, is there a reason for using xamp? You say you are trying to run dhis2 live, and it should run out of the box? (I’m including Knut, out dhis2-live expert)ĭhis2 live is fine if you are doing a bit of initial experimentation, but its not really meant for any kind of actual production system, and even if you just want to install on your local computer, it might be worth the effort to setup postgresql tomcat properly (it seems you already have postgresql, and adding tomcat is just one more component… you don’t really need xamp) On Fri, at 11:18 AM, Bridget Magoba wrote: If I recall correctly, skype will gracefully pick a different port if tomcat/apache is using its preferred port. Skype defaults its services to a few commonly used ports for webservers. If you have skype open and running, try quitting out of it entirely before starting the tomcat server. I often see this error on systems with skype running. I see you have enabled apache php, is this something you need? maybe its a service you can disable? Seems like you have another (non-tomcat) service running at port 8080.
